Stress Management Lesson Plans - Be Prepared




Stress management lesson plans make sense? It's no secret that most of us are over stressed. The bad economy, accumulating bills, the increasing price of school tuition and the decreasing number of jobs as well as a plethora of social issues and familial drama can create the perfect storm of seemingly unmanageable stress.

This stress can often manifest itself in depression, numerous health problems both mental and physical, as well as in extreme cases ultimately can end in suicide.  

Stress Management Training

The chronic inability to properly cope with stress in a healthy way is often a result of lack of training at a young age.

Because children are often coddled up until they pack their bags and leave for college, and some even through college, entering the big bad world can be overwhelming.

By creating  stress management lesson plans  that begin in early education, young people can better learn how to cope with the impending stresses of the "real world."

These lessons can help with  stress relief  by providing the necessary mental and emotional tools that will help young people understand the roots of stress as well as how to properly and appropriately react to stressful situations when they come upon them.

Though the scale of issues will not be the same from youth to adulthood, mastering certain techniques can make even big issues feel manageable.  

Different Approaches

There are a variety of methods available when considering  stress management lesson plans  for young people.

The first thing that is important to recognize are the symptoms of stress themselves. These symptoms manifest themselves in different ways for different people.

Some people may find that they have extreme stomach pain in stressful situations; others may get physically sick while some people may feel tired and burned out. In some cases, individuals may actually feel anger in stressful situations as well.

The ability to recognize the symptoms of stress is essential in understanding and effectively providing solutions. While some believe that avoiding stress is the best way to manage it, others believe that accepting the stress and adapting to either the stress or the situation can be a better answer.  

Avoiding Stress

Stress management   that revolves around the idea of avoiding stress should focus on a few things, one of which is learning to say "no" in particular situations.

These situations can include staying out of bad environments, engaging in a dangerous or morally reprehensible act, or simply preventing someone from placing more work on you than you are capable of completing.

Another focus can be the avoidance of negative people or influences in one's life. Staying positive has a huge impact on stress management. The more positive the individual, the more likely they are to face stress in a healthy way.  

Physical Exercise

Often overlooked is the power of regular exercise and a healthy diet in stress management. Simply taking care of one's body can ultimately help develop a healthy mind and emotional state as well.

Exercise is also a great way to relieve existing stress both in a physiological and emotional way.  

Coping With Stress

If one finds themselves in a situation that is particularly stressful and that simply could not have been avoided, there is a multitude of ways to provide  stress relief . 

Stress management lesson plans  that focus on accepting stressful situations and adapting to them should focus on the idea that no one can control everything or everyone around them.

Situations are bound to come up that are simply out of our control and thus the only thing to do is to learn how to accept that things are the way they are and learn how to effectively deal with them.

To do this, it is important to teach methods and techniques that encourage individuals to speak to people about their concerns, like friends, family or counselors to seek advice. This is particularly important for young people who may not have the experience to deal with some of the situations they face.

The stress management lesson plan should also encourage young people to look at the big picture and to try to view their problems from all angles before jumping to conclusions. By doing so, this will encourage them to think beyond the immediate issue and the feelings that surround it and look forward to the positive things to come. 

Stress management lesson plans  for young people are extremely important as they provide the next generation with the tools to handle their own  stress relief , making them both stronger and more resourceful in the difficult times ahead.
